Malbork Castle

Malbork Castle this is a tripartite defensive stronghold in the Gothic style with volume of more than 250 000 m³.

The three parts of the castle: low castle, medium castle and high castle. This is one of the largest surviving groups of Gothic architecture in the world.

The original name of the castle used by the Teutonic Knights sounded Marienburg, a castle of Mary. From September 14, 1309 to 1457 the castle in Malbork was the residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, a monastic state capital city.

Being of Malbork hard not to get to the castle, whose origins have been built in the thirteenth century. The whole history of this object is long and very complicated. In possession of the castle consisted of the great masters of the Teutonic Order. The military order for many years to raise Polish and Lithuanian territories, trying to create religious Prussia.

Malbork Castle was the residence of Polish kings. Since 1961, the object is located the Castle Museum, and 1997 is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over the few centuries the castle was destroyed and rebuilt, but survived to the present day.

Malbork Castle today is primarily a great tourist attraction, attracts a huge number of people. Gothic walls of the fortress of Malbork exceeds every year nearly half a million tourists from around the world. This trip is the best history lesson for younger generations. The medieval atmosphere is granted only to see all the locks.

Waiting for each visitor guide that will give us tour around the building and tell tell its complicated  history. After two hours we are alone in the castle and we can look at own hand in his interesting corners.

WARNING! On Mondays and certain holidays Castle Museum is closed. You can only visit the castle and some areas of the interior.
